The Springbok police, arrested two suspects, aged 34 and 39 respectively for illegal dealing in drugs in Bergsig, Springbok on Wednesday, 29 January 2025.
The members who were executing crime prevention patrols in and around Bergsig location spotted a suspicious purple motor vehicle that took off when its driver noticed the presence of the police in the same street. The police gave chase and cornered the vehicle in one of the streets in Bergsig.
The team noticed one of the occupants trying to throw a brown paper bag into a yard and upon closer inspection the team found mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R90 600- 00, and tik valued at approximately R615 000-00 and cash that is believed to be the proceeds of crime in their possession. The team arrested the suspects and confiscated the vehicle utilised in the commission of crime.
The two suspects were charged for illegal dealing in drugs and are expected to appear in the Springbok Magistrate’s Court soon.
The District Commissioner of the Namakwa district, Brigadier Schalk Andrews, commended the Springbok POP Delta platoon members for being vigilant and ensuring drug dealers are brought to justice.
