The prompt response by the members attached to the Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team, Provincial Anti-Economic Crimes Task Teams and the Provincial Combat Team led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of a firearm and ammunition as well as a SAPS official bullet resistant vest.
On Tuesday, 04 February 2025 at 12:30, members conducted an intelligence driven operation after receiving information about a rifle that is used by extortionists in Samora Machel. Members operationalised the information and approached the mentioned address where they ensued with a search.
In the process, they discovered a riffle and ammunition in a black luggage bag hidden under a bed in an informal settlement. Members also found and confiscated an official police bullet resistant vest on the roof of the shack.
Two suspects were arrested and will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ court after they have been charged.
