An integrated operation snatches illicit tobacco products with an estimated street value of R250 000

The Western Cape police remain devoted to the fight against the scourge of counterfeit goods which poses a huge health risk to communities and furthermore impact negatively on businesses and the economy of our country.

On Wednesday, 05 February 2025 at around 09:30, members of the Western Cape Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team together with the Provincial Anti-Economic Crimes Task Team conducted an integrated operation with Brand Protectors from Micor Investigation Services in Bellville CBD.

The members conducted a search on various shops where 5861 illicit tobacco products with an estimated street value of more than R250 135,00 were seized. Two male foreign nationals aged 24 and 44 were arrested and detained at Bellville SAPS.

They are due to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court under the Tobacco products control act of 1993, once charged.
