Swift reaction by Plooysburg SAPS leads to the arrest of a copper cable thief at Boskamp farm

farmer at Boskamp farm reported extensive damage and theft of copper cables at his farm.

Two members of Plooysberg Crime Prevention Unit immediately reacted to the complaint and on their way to the farm, they came across a male carrying a black bag.

He was subsequently stopped and searched and found in possession of a bag containing copper cables.

He could not provide the police officials with a satisfactory explanation or provide ownership of the copper.

The farmer positively identified the stolen copper as that allegedly stolen from his farm. The damage caused is estimated at approximately three hundred thousand.

The 28-year-old male was arrested and charged for damage to essential infrastructure and is expected to appear in the Douglas Magistrates Court on Friday, 7 February 2025.

The Acting District Commissioner in Pixley Ka Seme District, Colonel Zoyisile Nyalela applauded the swift action and arrest by the members. He also cited that damage to essential infrastructure has a negative impact on the economy of the country and in the community.
