The Tyre Equipment and Parts Association (TEPA), a proud association of the Retail Motor Industry Organisation (RMI), is pleased to announce the appointment of Kugen Pather as the new Associational Representative overseeing the Coastal region, which includes KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and the Western and Eastern Cape regions. Pather brings a wealth of experience and expertise to TEPA, having built a distinguished career in the automotive industry.

With a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in these coastal areas, Pather is poised to strengthen TEPA’s presence and support for its members in the region. His appointment underscores TEPA’s commitment to providing dedicated representation and advocacy for its members, ensuring their interests are effectively championed at both regional and national levels.

Vishal Premlall, TEPA National Director, welcomed Pather’s appointment, highlighting his extensive expertise in data analysis, fleet management, asset finance, and business information collation. Premlall noted, “Kugen’s well-rounded experience as an operations manager, coupled with his ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure environments, will make him an invaluable asset. His proven track record in managing both corporate and public sector accounts and assets positions him perfectly to lead TEPA’s efforts across the coastal regions.”

Commenting on his new role, Pather shared his enthusiasm, “I am excited to join the dynamic TEPA team and look forward to working closely with our coastal members. I believe my most recent experience, particularly with the RT46 contract, will be of value to members, and my aim is to ensure that we continue to provide exceptional support and drive positive change within the industry.”

Reflecting on his professional journey and goals, Pather says, “Having been in the corporate and public sector fleet management space for 16 years, specialising in overseeing maintenance and repair aspects, I felt it was the correct time for a change. Growth and new horizons are essential to avoid stagnation, and this is why I was happy to join TEPA – to learn and grow while offering my experience and knowledge within the RMI environment.”

Pather emphasised the importance of relationship building to foster a mutually beneficial environment. “I am engaging with members as much as possible and invite them to contact me personally to assist with any challenges they might have,” he said.

Looking ahead, Pather highlighted several key focus areas. “I see more partnerships with large fleet providers as an opportunity to make TEPA members preferred providers of parts, equipment, quality-assured tyres and related services in the fitment space. I also hope to utilise roadshows and local platforms to engage with members and listen to their needs,” he said.

On a personal note, Pather enjoys reading – particularly sci fi thrillers, cooking, and tinkering with cars. Motivated by the philosophy of “Carpe Diem” each day, he values balancing professional responsibilities with quality family time. “Weekends are spent with my wife and kids, which is my time to unplug and enjoy the quieter side of life,” he says.

“Pather’s leadership, extensive experience, and passion for building strong relationships will undoubtedly be instrumental in advancing TEPA’s mission in the Coastal region,” concludes Premlall.
