Members of the Benoni Flying Squad detained ten suspects and recovered a large amount of dagga between Monday, 10 February and Sunday, 16 February 2025.
On Monday, 10 February 2025 at around 13:15, members followed up information that led to a shop in 3rd Road Bredell, Kempton Park. A 36-year-old suspect was arrested with cartons of illicit cigarettes estimated at around R6, 000.00 discovered in the shop. A further charge of bribery was added when the suspect offered them money in exchange for his release. The suspect was detained at Kempton Park SAPS and all exhibits handed in.
On Tuesday, 11 February 2025, members followed up information from detectives and traced a 35-year-old suspect at the R555, in Etwatwa. She was sought on a warrant of arrest for a Devon case of theft from June 2023 and detained at Devon SAPS.
On Sunday, 16 February 2025 at approximately 17:10, members on patrol at Laris Road, near the Chris Hani Informal Settlement in Daveyton, stopped a white Toyota Corolla carrying three people. Two sizable black plastic bags filled with dagga, estimated to be worth about R30 000-00, were discovered in the boot after searching. The suspects, who were between the ages of 21 and 24 were immediately arrested and detained at Etwatwa SAPS.
Five suspects, ages 25 to 50, were arrested for drug-related offenses at Monument Road, Kempton Park, Kimbolton Avenue, Benoni, and Wenden Avenue, Brakpan, as a result of additional police operations. Both incidents involved the recovery of mandrax and crystal methamphetamine.
Investigation continues.
The suspects will be appearing in the local Magistrate’s Courts facing charges of possession of drugs, possession of illicit cigarettes and bribery.
