A Vervet monkey was rescued after it was run over by a vehicle on the R102 in Ottawa – KZN yesterday (Thursday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to the scene at approximately 10:04. On arrival, Reaction Officers met with the driver of a silver Suzuki Swift. He explained that he ran over the male monkey after it fled onto the road. The monkey was trapped between the bumper and radiator. Reaction Officers carefully manoeuvred and freed the injured animal.
The monkey sustained injuries and was handed over to Monkey Helpline for veterinary care.
