The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Community Outreach Unit joined forces with a wide range of stakeholders to conduct an integrated school safety awareness campaign at JB Marks Primary (Grades 5-7) and Kgatelopele Secondary (Grades 8-9) in the Braamfischer area.
The initiative focused on educating learners about critical safety issues and promoting a secure learning environment. Participating stakeholders included the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE), the Family and Child Resource Centre (FRC), the JMPD, the Department of Social Development, NICRO, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS), the Youth Crime Prevention Desk (YCPD), Westview Clinic, the Department of Community Safety, Scholar Patrol members, and Teddy Bear Clinic.
Learners actively engaged in discussions covering a variety of important topics, including:
* Road Safety
* Bullying
* Drug and Substance Abuse
* Gangsterism
* Gender-Based Violence (GBV)
* Creating a Safe Environment
* Sexual Harassment
