Three suspects are expected to appear in court on Monday 24 February 2025, following their arrest in Nyanga and Worcester for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
Nyanga police members were busy with patrols on Thursday 20 February 2025, when they responded to a complaint of a shooting incident in progress. Meanwhile police members of the Anti-Gang Unit deployed in Worcester to combat the ongoing gang violence, conducted visible police patrols on Friday 21 February 2025 when they followed up on information about a firearm stored at the home of a known gang leader. They operationalised the information and tactically approached the residence in River View Flats. Upon entering the house, they searched the occupants and the premises and in the process found a Taurus .38 Special revolver hidden underneath a bath. They detained an adult male for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Once charged the suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Athlone and Worcester Magistrates’ courts on the mentioned charges.
