A tip-off leads to two suspects being arrested for armed robbery and attempted murder in Jane Furse

An additional two male suspects, aged between 31 and 36, were apprehended in connection with an armed robbery and attempted murder of an off-duty Warrant Officer committed at Mashishing village, Jane Furse policing area on Tuesday, 14 January 2024.

According to police report, an off-duty police official stationed at Burgersfort was parking his white Toyota Hilux bakkie outside Mashishing village next to Library Gardens when a group of five unknown armed men approached him. They opened fire on his upper body, and the member came out of his vehicle in an attempt to defend himself and only to be shot again in the lower body and left unconscious.

The suspects then fled the scene with his service pistol, private firearm and two cellphones.

The passer-by discovered him and managed to call the emergency medical personnel. He was then transported to a local hospital for medical attention.

On Friday, 21 February 2025, midday members of Nebo Jane Furse tracking team and Detective Commander received information about the whereabouts of the alleged suspects. The team established an operation that led them to Gauteng Province in Springs, where the first suspect was apprehended.

Thorough investigations, led the members to Pretoria, where the second suspect was arrested.

The suspect led the team members to Limpopo Province in Madibong village Jane Furse, where the suspect pointed out where the firearm was hidden at his residential place. The firearm number was filed off and it will taken for ballistic test.

The first suspect was arrested during the early hours of Wednesday, 29 January 2025, whereby an operation was conducted resulting in the apprehension of a 26 year-old male suspect at Madibong village under Jane Furse precinct. Furthermore, the suspect led the police to his residence and voluntarily handed over the firearm with ammunition robbed during the incident.

The suspects are expected to appear before Nebo Magistrate court on Monday, 24 February 2025.

Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised residents of Jane Furse for trusting the SAPS with this sensitive information which led to additional two suspects and seizure of an unlicensed firearm after a police officer was shot.
