In their undeterred commitment in fighting the proliferation of unlicensed/prohibited firearms in the OR Tambo District, Tactical Response Teams, operating in the district, recovered three unlicensed firearms in Qanda locality in Tsolo. Two male suspects, aged 34 and 44, were arrested on Friday, 21 February 2025 at about 22:00.
The team pounced on the 44-year-old’s homestead recovering a rifle, a pistol with an erased serial number and ammunition which the suspect had no license to possess and the operation proceeded to the homestead of the 33-year-old suspect where two pistols were recovered, first pistol being an unlicensed one with ammunition and the second one being licensed but belonging to suspect’s late father which was taken to Tsolo police station for safe-keeping.
Both suspects were arrested, charged for unlawful possession of unlicensed firearm/s and ammunition, scheduled to appear before Tsolo Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 February 2025, facing their charges.
The OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana commended the Tactical teams for their sterling work, reiterating his stance that these illegal firearms will be confiscated, arresting suspects in ensuring that our citizens are in a safe place and feel secure.
