JMPD Community Outreach Unit Participates In Youth Diversion Program

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Community Outreach Unit, in collaboration with the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) Public Information, Education, and Relations (PIER), recently participated in a workshop as part of the Together Against Group (TAG) Youth Diversion program.

The workshop, held within the Sophiatown SAPS precinct, aimed to provide a second chance to learners from local schools exhibiting problematic behaviours. Four learners from Westbury High School referred to the program for issues ranging from selling cigarettes and drug use to fighting and general behavioural problems, were in attendance. School
principals from the precinct also joined the workshop.

The program involved assigned tasks for the learners and dedicated sessions with JMPD and EMS personnel focused on encouragement and positive reinforcement. While several referred learners did not attend, the JMPD and EMS teams were able to conduct a productive and positive session with those who did participate.

The JMPD Community Outreach Unit remains committed to supporting initiatives that empower youth and foster positive relationships within our communities.
