A twenty four (24) year old Security Officer from Bhambayi – KZN has opened a criminal case of Kidnapping, Extortion & Assault against two (2) Policemen & a Policewoman based at Phoenix SAPS in Kwazulu Natal.
The incident escalated on Tuesday (25/02/2025) when the Police Officials arrived at a business premises in Ethekweni – KZN to serve a Protection Order to an employee regarding a domestic matter. The Security Officer at the entrance of the building informed the Police Officers that the business premises had strict hygiene protocols & was a supplier in the food industry. The female Police Officer refused to comply with the protocols and it was agreed that the employee will sign receipt of the Protection Order outside the premises. The Security Officer then escorted the employee to the Police vehicle parked at the entrance of the premises & was served the order.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was informed that the the female Police Officer then called the Security Officer to the side of the building & began verbally abusing him adding that the Police were not concerned about hygiene protocols. According to the Security Officer the Police Officer believed there were no cameras in that area and began assaulting him. Two male Policemen standing near the vehicle approached him and used obscene languages at him. They then forced him into the vehicle when they realised that a camera was installed discreetly in the same area.
The Security Officer added that the Police Officer intentionally covered their nameplates & took him away from the premises where they requested R2000 in cash for his release or he would be placed in a cell and raped by other prisoners. The Security Officers explained that he only had R220 in his pocket. The female Officer then removed the money and placed it in her pocket. They repeatedly requested R2000 cash for his release. When he refused they offered to charge him and withdraw when the family brought in the cash. A charge of Resisting Arrest & Assault on Police was fabricated against him and he was released on bail. According to the Security Officer, he managed to get a glimpse of the female Police Officers nameplate which read Dube. He could not see the male Officers name badge.
When Manangement at the business premises viewed the CCTV Footage they found that the guard was assaulted by the Police Officers without provocation & that the Security Officer was performing his duties as per his job description and in compliance with the company protocols.
