Copper cable thief arrested in the Dawn Park area

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Intervention Unit Officers, arrested a male suspect in the Dawn Park area.

While Officers were patrolling the area, they received a complain about a citizens arrest. Officers proceeded to a residence on Olive Street and upon arrival, found the suspect already handcuffed with the cables next to him. It is
alleged that the owner of the house saw the suspect pulling out copper cables from the street light pole and
immediately called the neighborhood security and pounced on the suspect who was handcuffed before calling the Police.

Officers immediately escorted the suspect to Dawn Park Police Station. The twenty-six (26) year-old facing charges of possession of suspected stolen property and malicious damage to essential infrastructure is expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court soon.

The EMPD commends the swift response by members of the public to prevent crime from happening by reporting unlawful activities to the Police.
