Maitland Flying Squad arrests a suspect for the possession of a prohibited firearm and stolen vehicle

Western Cape police remain committed in the fight against crime in our communities and ensuring that those who find themselves on the wrong side of the law are put behind bars.

On Thursday 27 February 2025, at around 11:00 members attached to Maitland Flying Squad were busy patrolling in Khayelitsha when they came across a suspicious Toyota Fortuner and they stopped it. Upon searching the vehicle, the members found a 9mm pistol without a serial number.

The 27-year-old suspect who was inside the vehicle was subsequently arrested for the possession of a prohibited firearm. The vehicle was tested and it was established that it was stolen in Muizenberg.

The suspect will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court once charged, on the mentioned charges.
