A taxi driver and a passenger were shot dead on Masingana Road in Phase 6, Waterloo – KZN this afternoon (Friday).
An off-duty Detective from the South African Police Service (SAPS) contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance at approximately 19:36. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival, found a white Toyota Quantum taxi lying on its side. The driver’s lifeless body was in the vehicle. A second male was located approximately 150 meters away. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and also died on scene.
It was established that the suspect was a passenger in the minibus. He was seated in the front next to the driver and shot him without warning. A passenger at the rear opened the sliding door and attempted to flee, but was also gunned down. The gunman thereafter fled on foot. The mini bus rolled several metres before it overturned. Two (2) female passengers were not injured.
The motive for the murders were not immediately established.
