Manenberg police conducted high density stop and search patrols on Sunday, 16 March 2025 and detained two suspects for firearm related charges.
The members pursued information and stopped and search all community members in the vicinity of Irvine Street. They noticed three males coming in their direction who suddenly changed direction when they saw the patrol vehicle. The members followed them and located one male hiding in a nearby premises, searched the man and found in him possession of a 9mm pistol with ammunition without a valuable licence to be in possession of the mentioned firearm. The police members detained the 24-year-old man for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated intervention the police members entered a premises in Irvine Street and searched the occupants. Their patience paid off when they recovered a .38 Special revolver with ammunition and arrested a 35-year-old female for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on the mentioned charges.
