Members of the Benoni Flying Squad apprehended four suspects, recovered ammunition, and seized one motor vehicle between Thursday, 13 March and Sunday, 16 March 2025.
On Thursday, 13 March 2025 at around 20:00, members followed up on information in Ermelo Street, Strubenvale, Springs on suspects wanted for a car break-in, which took place in February 2025. Some of the victim’s personal belongings were retrieved in the possession of the two suspects, ages 28 and 29, who were apprehended after being discovered in a white Renault Kwid.
On Saturday, 15 March 2025 members learned that a suspect was driving a white Toyota Sprinter while carrying a firearm. The car that fit the description was stopped near Ampthill Avenue in Benoni at about 14:00. When four (04) live rounds of ammunition were discovered in the possession of a 46-year-old foreign national, he was taken into custody. When he promised members two R2000-00 in exchange for his release, a bribery allegation was added.
In other incidents, members helped Tracker retrieve a white Toyota Hilux that had been hijacked at Ivory Park Extension 3 and arrest a 46-year-old suspect on Sunday morning. An Ivory Park case involved the Hilux.
Investigation continues. The suspects will be appearing in the local Magistrate’s Courts facing charges of car breaking, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of unlicensed ammunition, and possession of hijacked motor vehicle.
