Members from Harding SAPS as well as Port Shepstone K9 Unit arrested three suspects aged between 19 and 32 at Gumbatana and Klaarwater for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Police Officers conducted an operation at Gumbatana area where they arrested two suspects who were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Following information the team proceeded to Klaarwater Hostel under Mariannhill policing precinct where they arrested a 26-year-old suspect also for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Police Officers also found an assortment of drugs as they conducted a further search.
Intensive investigations are ongoing to determine whether the arrested suspects are linked to the double murder which took place on Thursday, 13 March 2025 at Goba Farm where a male and a female were shot and killed while seated in a car. The arrested suspects will appear at the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court and Highflats periodical Court on Thursday, 20 March 2025.
In another incident on Monday, 17 March 2025 members from Paddock Police Station as well as Port Shepstone K9 Unit arrested Lindokuhle Ngcobo for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at Nyandayezulu area. Police officers gathered information of a male who was in possession of an unlicensed firearm and they proceeded to the suspect’s residence. Upon arrival a search was conducted and a 9mm pistol was discovered with three live rounds.
A further search was done and a driver’s license, credit cards and firearm license which did not belong to the suspect were also discovered. A further probe revealed that the discovered items including a firearm belonged to a gentlemen in Pretoria who had reported the theft of his belongings at Lyttelton police station. The recovered firearm will sent for ballistic testing to determine whether it has been used to commit any other crime in the country.
He appeared at Port Shepstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 18 March 2025 and he was granted R500 bail and will be back in court on Thursday, 17 April 2025.
