Two foreign male nationals were detained by the Maleboho police in the Capricorn District on separate allegations of violating the Immigration Act, possessing illegal cigarettes, and and possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition.
On Monday, 17 March 2025 at about 11:30, police were busy conducting business routine visits at various spaza shops to check compliance with specific emphasis on expired foods at Ga-Ramaswikana Village. On arrival at Kgamaredi Tuck shop, they found a 31-year-old shopkeeper together with a 19-year-old cashier and permission was granted for them to search the premises focusing on illicit items and expired foods.
While conducting the search, police discovered twenty-eight cartoons (28) of Remington Gold illicit cigarettes and a firearm with ammunition under the counter. The duo was asked about ownership of the firearm and the shopkeeper responded that it belonged to him but does not possess a license for it.
Furthermore, the 19-year-old failed to produce authentic documents for being in the country legally and they were both placed under arrest at the scene.
Police also seized a substantial amount of cash during the arrest. The two foreign male nationals will appear before a local Magistrate court soon.
Police investigations are continuing.
