Police in the Western Cape continue to remove unlicensed and prohibited firearms from the streets, in the process detained three suspects on firearm related charges.
Lentegeur police were busy with patrols on Friday 21 March 2025 when they accosted a male in Tritonia Street in Lentegeur at about 17:30. The man attempted to evade them upon which they apprehended and searched him which resulted in the recovery of a pistol with ammunition. They detained the adult male for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Meanwhile Ceres police members were busy with patrols in the early hours of Sunday 23 March 2025 when they spotted a suspicious motor vehicle in Voortrekker Street. The members stopped, approached the occupants and searched them leading to the recovery of a 9mm pistol with ammunition. They detained two adult males for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Mitchells Plain and Ceres Magistrates’ courts on the mentioned charges.
