Members attached to the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit swiftly arrested two foreign nationals hours after a 40-year-old male was fatally shot near a tavern in Thabong.
The individual was allegedly shot at approximately 03:10 on Sunday, 23 March 2025, after leaving a tavern in Thabong. He was driven in a private vehicle to the hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival. A case of murder was registered.
Members obtained and followed up on information regarding the suspects’ whereabouts while they were on duty. The information led them to a shack occupied by two males at N1 Section, Thabong. Upon searching the shack, members recovered one firearm hidden under a chair. One firearm, two rounds ammunition and one magazine were confiscated.
Two male suspects aged 28, were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunitions. One suspect was allegedly linked to the case of murder. Investigations are still ongoing.
Suspects will appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court soon.
