Police arrest two suspects for fraud (card scamming

The Police in Standerton, in partnership with the security company, arrested two suspects, aged 42 and 37, on Saturday, 29 March 2025, for alleged card scamming (fraud).

The Police received information about the vehicle with Gauteng registration number plates, occupied by suspects allegedly involved in the said fraud. The information further revealed that the dodgy dealings were carried out in Standerton CBD area. The suspects were spotted at a filling station, however, some community members were busy assaulting one of the alleged suspects reportedly found with a card of the victim whom they allegedly robbed at an ATM.

According to further allegations, two suspects robbed a female victim of her personal belongings, including her bank cards. lt is said that later on, those items were found in possession of the suspects, with R 1800 cash that was allegedly withdrawn from the victims’ bank account. The suspects’ hired vehicle was also seized as it was used in the commission of crime.

The two suspects are expected to appear at the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on 31 March 2025.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi has recommended the partnership displayed between the SAPS and the security companies as it assist in ensuring that perpetrators are swiftly brought to book. The General also discouraged community members from taking the law into their own hands.
