An 80-year-old unidentified male has been rescued after he was found severely dehydrated & disoriented on a river bank in Waterloo – KZN this afternoon (Thursday).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received calls for assistance from a group of residents walking in the vicinity. The callers reported that a partially naked man could be seen lying on the ground barely responsive.
Reaction Officers abandoned their vehicles & walked along the river until the man was located. He was found naked from the waist down (image blurred) & incoherent. Officers hydrated the man & contacted Paramedics for medical assistance.
Paramedics stabilised the man & then secured him to a trauma board. With the assistance of Reaction Officers he was carried up a steep embankment & through a sugar cane plantation to a waiting ambulance. He was transported to the Osindisweni Government Hospital (OGH).
According to locals, the man was seen herding cattle in the vicinity of the river on Monday afternoon. It is believed he had been lying there since. This could not be confirmed.
