The SAPS Brakpan crime prevention battalions were conducting their daily routine and patrols within the precinct when they spotted a grey VW polo Vivo that was parked off Heidelberg road far into the open veld opposite Ultra Liquor in Dalpark ext.6.
The crime prevention members tactically approached the vehicle and found two African males and one African female. When asked what they were doing parked there, the one male tried uttering lies to the police members when the female occupant begged the officers not to leave her with the two males.
Cst. Mzwakhe Khoza then interviewed the female aside, and she described that she is an employee at a shop at Mall@Carnival and one of the males proposed love to her and she got interested.
The male then suggested that the female accompany him and his friend during her lunch break.
They then drove with her to the open veld, the male who was sitting with her at the back seat of the vehicle pointed her with a knife ( okapie) , instructed her to take out her cellphone and transact a cash send using her bank app.
During that time, the male also ordered her to empty her handbag in which they took five hundred rands only in cash.
Sgt. Bheki Sibande and Cst. Mzwakhe Khoza did not take the situation for granted and immediately arrested the two African males on charges of kidnapping, armed robbery with a weapon either than a firearm, being in possession of suspected stolen goods and fraud.
The two were detained at the Brakpan police station, the polo Vivo they were driving was found to have false number plates and it was also confiscated by the police members together with the knife used to rob the lady, and the iPhone devices found in the suspect’s possession but they could not open them even though they claimed ownership.
The SAPS Brakpan Vispol commander Colonel Robert Makopo applauded the crime prevention member’s vigilant and professional behavior which saved the innocent female from being robbed.
