A street vendor was found in possession of a stolen phone valued at R6000 in Verulam – KZN this morning (Tuesday).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was called out to a home in Oaklands – KZN after two (2) men entered her home and stole the mobile phone. According to the complainant, she provided services as a caregiver. She noticed the men passing her home on foot and requested they assist with carrying of an elderly person to a nearby car. The men then left and she realised that one of the unknown men had entered her home and removed her phone.
The woman drove around for two (2) hours and spotted one of the suspects on Oaklands Drive – Oaklands. She then contacted the RUSA Operations Center. Reaction Officers interviewed the man who pointed out a business premises on Todd Street where he had sold the phone for R250.
Reaction Officers found the phone in possession of a female fruit & vegetable vendor operating on the roadside (picture 4/5). The phone was handed over to the victim after she declined to open a criminal case.
The suspects used the cash from the sale of the phone to purchase drugs.
