A homeowner was stabbed in the head while attempting to apprehend a burglary suspect in Canelands – KZN a short while ago (Wednesday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to New Glasgow Road by the complainant at approximately 11:38. On arrival, Reaction Officers found two (2) males bleeding from injuries to their heads.
It was established that one (1) of the men owns a house in Hazelmere – KZN. He informed Officers that his residence was broken into multiple times from 2023. He decided to conduct his own investigation after experiencing another burglary last Friday (18/04/2025) during which a Skil saw and a pair of safety boots were stolen.

He armed himself with the handle of an axe (seen in picture 3) and confronted the accused. An altercation ensued and the homeowner assaulted the accused on his head. The suspect produced a knife and stabbed the man above his right eyebrow (picture 2). The complainant was assisted by a passerby to subdue the knife wielding male.
During an interview, the accused informed Reaction Officers that he was responsible for the burglaries and that he sold the stolen goods to a random individual at an informal settlement in Canelands – KZN.
