Operation Bamba clamped down on illegal abalone trade

The Anti-Gang-unit in Gqeberha executed a search warrant on a residence in Parsons Ridge, where after they arrested one suspect and confiscated abalone on Thursday, 24 April 2025.

On above mentioned date at approximately 22:10, the SAPS members executed a search warrant at a complex in Summerville Avenue, Parsons Ridge. During the search of the property the members found 15 frozen bags containing abalone that was in a chest freezer inside one of the rooms in the house.

Members further confiscated a gold-coloured BMW motor vehicle, cell phones, 3 x deep freezers, an industrial scale, and buckets and cardboard boxes. The estimated value of the abalone is R150 000-00.

The suspect is detained for contravention of the Marine Living Resource Act, 19 of 1998 Regulation 36 sub sect 1 – illegal possession of abalone without a permit and are expected to appear in the Gqeberha magistrate court soon.
