Following a coordinated intelligence-driven operation targeting violent criminal activity linked to the notorious “West Gang,” Metro Police, alongside various law enforcement teams, conducted a successful takedown in the Mzomusha area.
The operation was initiated after intelligence was gathered through drone surveillance and community sources, identifying specific properties used by gang members. Officers maintained close coordination and tactical surveillance over several days to ensure accuracy and timing.
On the evening of 24 April 2025, the operation was executed with the involvement of multiple specialized teams. The outcome:
Three suspects arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Firearms and ammunition recovered and processed as evidence.
The suspects were also charged for attempted murder linked to an Inanda case and are expected to be linked to additional cases by detectives.
Seven other individuals were taken in for questioning during the operation but were later released after thorough verification.
This success demonstrates the impact of intelligence-driven policing, inter-agency cooperation, and strong community partnerships.
Durban Metro Police thanks all involved units and community members who continue to play a crucial role in restoring safety and security.
