Three family members were arrested for the murder of an elderly businessman in Schoemansdal

Three family members, aged between 29 and 75, were arrested by the Police on Monday, 28 April 2025, in connection with the tragic murder of Mr. Freddy George Willies (80). The man was murdered on Sunday, 27 April 2025, around 08:40.

According to preliminary information, the victim’s son was visiting his parents when he was attacked by two armed men wearing balaclavas as he arrived in his Mercedes-Benz. The suspects reportedly tied him up with a cable and proceeded into the house where they reportedly shot the 80-year-old male victim at point-blank before fleeing the scene in the son’s vehicle.

A murder case was opened, and the investigation team worked tirelessly to gather evidence and track down the suspects. Their dedication and expertise in the field led to the swift arrest of the three family members, who now face murder charges.

The Police cannot rule out further arrests as the investigation continues.

The suspects are set to appear at the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court in Tonga on Tuesday, 29 April 2025.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the investigation team for their exceptional and skilful work, which reflects their commitment to justice and community safety. “This incident is deeply concerning, and we will not rest until all those responsible are held accountable,” said the General.
