A 28-year-old man has been left in a critical condition this evening after he was hit by a taxi on Indus Road in Copesville in Pietermaritzburg.
When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene, they found the wrecked taxi parked on the side of the road with a large crowd surrounding the vehicle.
When paramedics made their way through the crowd, they found the patient lying halfway beneath the taxi in a critical condition.
Paramedics immediately and carefully removed the patient from beneath the vehicle and immediately began their treatment, also providing the patient with advanced life support interventions.
Once treated, the patient was immobilized and transported to Greys Hospital for urgent medical attention.
It is understood that the driver of the speeding taxi failed to notice the pedestrian crossing the road.
Fortunately no-one from the taxi sustained any injuries.
Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
