One man has been killed and another critically injured this morning after a light motor vehicle rear-ended a truck on the N1 Highway near the William Nicol offramp in Johannesburg.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene to find the truck and light motor vehicle stationary in the slow lane.
On assessment of the vehicle, paramedics discovered two lifeless bodies of two male patients lying trapped inside.
The driver was assessed by paramedics and was found to have sustained multiple fatal injuries. Unfortunately nothing more could be done for the patient and he was declared dead.
Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to gain access to the patient who lay trapped. Once freed, paramedics treated the patient and provided him with advanced life support treatment. He was later transported to Life Fourways for urgent medical attention.
Fortunately no-one from the truck sustained any injuries.
Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
