Two people died, one person was left with serious injuries and another with minor injuries when a truck transporting an excavator overturned on the N4 at Ngodwana in Mpumalanga last night.
When ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene they found that the truck had jackknifed. The cab of the truck was on its roof. The excavator was lying several metres away.
Three people were entrapped. Upon assessment paramedics found that two of the occupants, a man and a woman, had succumbed to their injuries. They were declared dead. The third person was found to have sustained serious injuries. Fire and Rescue Services used the jaws of life and other rescue tools to extricate the occupants of the truck.
The patient who sustained serious injuries and another who sustained minor injuries were treated and transported to hospital for further medical care.
The exact cause of the collision is unknown however authorities were on scene for further investigations.
