On 29 December 2015 at about 01:30, the senior security specialist of Vodacom, who resides in Brackenfell, received an sms on his cell phone about an alarm at a farm in the Darling area on the R27 West Coast road. He also received a video of how suspects broke into the place where the Vodacom and MTN batteries are kept. He immediately contacted the police in Darling, who in turn requested back up from Atlantis SAPS.
Upon their arrival on the scene, two suspects were arrested and the other three fled into the bushes. Twenty-three (23) Vodacom and MTN batteries with an estimated street value of R80 500.00 were recovered by the police. The suspects will appear in the Malmesbury Magistrate Court on a charge of housebreaking and theft.
