A man was killed and three others injured in a collision involving three vehicles on the R24 highway in Johannesburg on Thursday, paramedics said.
“The collision occurred in the direction of the OR Tambo International Airport between the Edenvale and Barbara road off-ramps [at about 05:45],” said ER24 spokesperson Andre Visser.
“One of the vehicles was torn in half against one of the sign posts next to the highway.”
The driver of this vehicle, in his late thirties, was later declared dead at the scene.
The injured were taken to a nearby hospital and are in a stable condition.
The cause of the accident is unclear at this stage.
Other accidents
The accident was one of three that occurred between 05:30 and 06:00 on the same highway.
A man was killed when his car crashed into roadside barriers near the Edenvale off-ramp at about 05:30.
Another man was seriously injured when his car crashed into a lamp pole near the Barbara Road off-ramp at about 06:00.
Police could not immediately confirm the details of the accidents.
