Five armed robbery suspects were arrested and two unlicensed firearms were recovered on Wick Street in the Verulam CBD a short while ago.
At approximately 10:32 Reaction Unit South Africa received a call from a member of public requesting assistance. The caller explained that one of his employees was on his way from Nedbank when he noticed the occupants of a Mazda Midge and a Chev Aveo observing him. His employee believed that they were going to rob him and sought refuge in a pharmacy.
Reaction Officers proceeded to the location and kept observation over both vehicles. During the observation the front passenger of the Mazda Midge walked towards the pharmacy, looked inside and then gave his accomplices a thumbs up.
Reaction Officers approached the vehicles and removed the occupants. One suspect in the Chev Aveo attempted to drive off but was boxed in. Two Policeman from the Verulam SAPS arrived on scene and a search of the vehicle was conducted. Two firearms with filed off seriel numbers, balaclavas and gloves were recovered in the Mazda Midge by a Reaction Officer during the search. All five suspects were placed under arrest and are currently detained at the Verulam SAPS.
The suspects are believed to be linked to several other robberies
