On Monday 20 August 2018, at about 14:25, vigilant SAPS members from Mitchell’s Plain SAPS were carrying out crime prevention duties in Tafelsig, when they stopped and searched two suspicious-looking men at the corners of Spine and Swartklip Roads, Tafelsig. During the search police found a black Llma Especial firearm with its serial number filed off in their possession, along with seven live rounds of ammunition. The two men, aged 24 and 22 years respectively, were arrested. The suspects are facing charges related to the possession of a prohibited firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. They are expected to appear in court soon. The suspects are members of a gang.Also on Monday 20 August 2018, at about 21:00, the members of the Mitchell’s Plain Crime Prevention Unit were still performing crime prevention duties in Tafelsig. They received information about firearms and drugs being kept at a premises in Tradouw Street, Tafelsig. Upon searching the premises members found 54 x live 9mm rounds and 21 x 6.35 mm live rounds of ammunition, as well as 100 whole Mandrax tablets. A 20-year-old woman was arrested. The suspect faces charges of possession of ammunition and possession of drugs. She is expected to appear in court forthwith.
In an attempt to curb street robberies occurring in the Lwandle policing precinct and apprehending the suspects involved, Lwandle SAPS crime prevention members followed up on information on a recently reported case. After searching the suspect, who had an imitation firearm with three live rounds of ammunition, he was arrested. The suspect confessed to the police that he had had this imitation firearm for the past two weeks. Upon searching the house, members also found two cellular telephones suspected to have been stolen.
The 30 year old suspect was arrested and taken to Lwandle police station where he was charged with possession of ammunition for a firearm without a licence and suspected stolen property.
He is due to appear in the Strand Magistrates’ Court today, Tuesday 21 August 2018, on the mentioned charges.
