The National Head of the Hawks Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya has welcomed the two life sentences imposed on convicts for human trafficking by the Pretoria Regional Court on Tuesday.
Chijoke Theophilus Ndumbusi (33) and Samantha Heather Niedermeyer (36) were sentenced to life imprisonment each and an additional five years whilst Okeke Amaiseli (41) was condemned to five years in prison.
The trio were arrested in October 2014 by the Hawks’ serious organised crimes’ Human Trafficking Unit, following an undercover operation in Fearie Glen, outside Pretoria, at a house that was suspected to be used as a brothel and a drug den.
“I want to congratulate the investigating team, the NPA and everyone involved on the co-operation efforts which enabled these convictions to be secured. Tireless efforts are being made by the Hawks to combat the trafficking of human beings. We will not leave any stone unturned to locate and convict those who continue to exploit innocent people in our country,” said Lieutenant General Lebeya.
