More than forty criminal cases have been registered against two woman and a man who are behind a multi million Rand property scam in Pietermaritzburg – KZN.
A Detective from the Pietermaritzburg Central SAPS contacted RUSA today requesting assistance in tracking down Sherika Singh, Steven Naidoo and Barusha Naidoo who are confirmed to be involved in the scam. The names of the suspects could not be confirmed and may be aliases.
Police have tracked down Singh’s parents home which is situated in an isolated area behind the Engen Ultra City in Cator Ridge along the N3. Her parents have refused to assist investigators and deny any knowledge of their daughter’s whereabouts.
The modus operandi of the suspects generally begins where Singh meets people who are interested in purchasing property that has been repossessed by First National Bank. She promises to sell repossessed property at reduced prices and informs her victims that she has a contact named Steven Naidoo who is the branch manager of First National Bank.
Steven Naidoo and his colleague Barusha Naidoo then call the victims convincing them that they are representatives of FNB and that Singh’s proposals to sell them repossessed properties are genuine. Singh then arranges for the victims to view a property that actually belongs to other people and has not been repossessed.
Based on the phone call from Steven Naidoo & Barusha Naidoo and the viewing of the property the victims are enticed to go ahead with the purchase of the property and deposit money into Singh’s account.
In one case an individual deposited a million Rand in cash into Sherika’s account while a second victim was conned out of 1,5 million Rand. Several pensioners have also been scammed by the fraudsters. They are also being sought for other cases of fraud in other provinces. Steven and Berusha are believed to be from Phoenix. The 40 victims are from different locations in KwaZulu-Natal.
