Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) arrested a foreign national as he was dragging a female into a bush with the intention of raping her.
Reaction Officers Spamandla Manyoni & Deon Chinnian were on patrol on Estuary Drive in Missionlands at approximately 08:57 this morning (Tuesday) when they noticed a woman attempting to fight off an individual who had his hand locked around her waist.
Officers immediately intervened and subdued the man when they noticed the crime in progress. The female explained that she was seeking employment as a domestic worker in the area when she met the Malawian national while walking through a short cut. With his hands, he gestured that he wanted to have sex with her.
When she declined his advances he offered her R200 in exchange for sexual intercourse which she also refused. The suspect then grabbed her from the back and was dragging her into a bush when RUSA Officers stopped to assist.
The suspect attempted to flee but was tackled and restrained by Reaction Officers. The victim’s handbag was recovered across the road. The 30-year-old Waterloo resident was not injured.
The suspect was handed over to the Verulam SAPS for further investigation.
