A bull that was trapped in an open sewer pit was rescued in Oakford, Verulam on Wednesday.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched to the property after a man made the discovery in his back yard. On arrival the bull was found trapped in the pit measuring approximately 4×2 meters. It was estimated to be 2 meters deep.
The concrete cover allegedly broke following recent rains leaving the pit exposed. The bull is suspected to have fallen in while grazing on the unfenced property.
After several failed attempts to free the distressed animal, RUSA Reaction Officers & Paramedics utilized a steel security gate and wooden boards to fabricate a ramp (picture 3). A rope was tied to the horns of the bull and it was pulled out of the pit with the assistance from a neighbour and two herdsmen who arrived on the scene in search of the animal that went missing.
The animal was not injured during the rescue.
