A 12 year old boy needed to be airlifted to hospital after hurting his back while he was playing at school.
The boy was allegedly playing during break when he rolled down one of the field embankments and landed on his bottom. He was in a state of slight confusion and was complaining of severe pain to his lower back. The parents were called to the school after which it was decided that ER24 should rather be called in to transport him in case of severe injury to the boy’s back.
When the paramedics got to the school on Pembroke Street the boy was still in a lot of pain and he was given some medication to ease it. The paramedics determined that he may have sustained a severe spinal injury and decided it would be in the best interest to call in the Medicopter to airlift the boy to hospital.
The ER24 Discovery Medicopter landed in the park at the school and the boy was taken to the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital in Johannesburg.
Upon arrival at the hospital, it was confirmed that the boy’s back was seriously injured. He will undergo the necessary treatment at the hospital.
