Police in Ga-Rankuwa have issued a warning to job seekers and the public in general, to desist from being duped by fraudsters into paying monies in exchange for jobs, particularly because no government department would demand money in exchange for vacancies.
This comes after the arrest and appearance of a 31-year old alleged con-man in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate Court on Friday 26 February 2021, for defrauding unsuspecting job-seekers, getting them to pay him an amount of money in exchange for non-existing jobs at government departments. Makhosonke Ernest Mlangetsha is set to make his second appearance in the same Court on 10 March 2021.
Working closely with the victims, police found that Mlangetsha had committed similar scams in Limpopo and further investigations led police to Ga-Rankuwa where he was arrested. It also emerged that the said suspect, who at times posed as a Priest, might have other outstanding cases in other provinces.
Mlangetsha has been remanded in custody for further investigation and a possible bail hearing.
In the meantime, members of the community who might have fallen prey to the alleged fraudster or similar scams are requested to come forward with more information that might assist to build a solid case that can stand in court.
Members of the public are further advised to contact the police on the crime stop number, 08600 10111 for any suspicious activities or send information via the My SAPS App that can be downloaded onto any smartphone.
