Jonathan Mathunduluka (25) and Sifiso Manana (42) were remanded in custody until Wednesday, 28 April 2021 upon appearance in the Brits Magistrates’ Court today on charges of conspiracy to commit house robbery, pointing of firearm and possession of unlicensed firearm.
The accused appeared in court subsequent to their arrest on Wednesday, 21 April 2021. According to the reports, Crime Intelligence officials working together with members of the Brits Tactical Response Team (TRT) and National Intervention Unit (NIU) reacted swiftly on a tip-of about conspiracy to commit house robbery at one of the residences in town. Consequently, the suspects’ vehicle, a Nissan Almera with three occupants was seen arriving at the targeted house. It is alleged that three males alighted from the vehicle and proceeded to the house.
The suspects were being followed when one of them noticed the police and pointed them with a firearm. It was at that point that the suspect was allegedly shot and wounded. As a result, he dropped his firearm and fled on foot while the other two were cornered and arrested.
Meanwhile, the firearm and the vehicle were confiscated for further investigation.
