An intelligence-driven operation conducted by Mthatha Tactical Response Team and Mthatha Crime Intelligence units led to the arrest of a 51-year-old male suspect for unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
This operation followed after police received information about illegal firearms and ammunition in Tabase A/A on Wednesday, 28 April 2021.
Police confiscated:
1. 9mm Parabellum Baretta (state firearm), one (1) magazine with 15 live ammunition,
2. 9mm Luger Parabellum with two (2) magazines each containing 14 live ammunition,
3. two (2) R5 live ammunition and a box containing 11 live ammunition.
The firearms will be taken to a ballistic test to ascertain their earlier use in the commission of a crime.
The suspect is expected to appear at Mthatha magistrates’ court soon facing charges of unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The community is encouraged to report all illegal firearms.
