With the Easter weekend approaching members of the SAPS Steenberg Crime Prevention Unit are focused on keeping their community safe and this led to the arrest of a 21-year-old male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Grindel Avenue Lavender Hill this morning at about 00:45.
The members were busy with patrols to combat gang-related shootings and robberies in the area when they stopped and searched the suspect. While searching him they found a 9mm pistol with ammunition in his possession.
The suspect will make a court appearance in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on 14 April 2022 on the mentioned charges.
Meanwhile integrated operations between Border police, Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment, yesterday, led to the arrest of six suspects aged between 26 and 52 for the possession of 863 Western Cape Rock Lobsters in separate incidents.
The members conducted special operations in the Elands Bay area following the ongoing poaching of lobsters that have a direct impact on the West Coast sea life.
The suspects are due to appear in the Piketberg Magistrate’s Court on 14 April 2022 on the mentioned charges.
