The driver of a Hyundai 1-ton truck has sustained very serious injuries after head on collision on Houtkop Road in Vereeniging.
The Hyundai is believed to have crashed into the front of a heavy duty coal truck, leaving the driver, a man in his 30’s, entrapped in the driver’s seat of the Hyundai. The mechanism of how the accident actually happened will need to be investigated but the collision happened just at the Klip River Drive and Houtkop Road intersection.
The Fire and Rescue workers used their heavy duty equipment to cut away at the Hyundai in order to free the trapped driver. Paramedics then stabilised the man while the ER24 Discovery Medicopter was called in. The man was taken from the wreckage almost an hour later and he was loaded into the waiting Medicopter for transport to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg.
The man would require extensive treatment for severely broken bones and internal injuries.
The driver of the coal truck was left with minor injuries and he refused further treatment and left the scene with private transport.
