Ogechukwu Stephen Okpala (35), appeared in the Springs Magistrate’s Court today, 9 September 2022 following his arrest on Wednesday, for illegally dealing in and possession of narcotics
A multidisciplinary team consisting of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Benoni Tactical Response Team, K9 and Metro police arrested Okpala after a tip off that he was selling narcotics around Springs. The team observed Okpala transacting with clients on the street and pounced on him.
He was searched and narcotics were found in his possession, consequently he was taken to his nearby flat where a variety of drugs were found concealed. These included mandrax tablets and crystal meth, all valued at approximately R350 000.
The court has postponed the case to 16 September 2022, to allow the State to verify the legality of the accused in the country, whilst he remain in custody.
