Maletswai (Aliwal North) 10 May 2023: The swift reaction, effective and efficient sharing of intelligence information across district borders led to the successful arrest of five attempted murder suspects in Maletswai.
On 09 May 2023 at about 21:30, members from SAPS Aliwal North acted on intelligence and stopped a white VW Polo that was involved in an attempted murder case and fled the scene.
Information revealed that the vehicle was spotted heading toward Aliwal North. As the vehicle entered Aliwal North and after spotting the police, they sped off and a high-seed chase ensued. When the vehicle was intercepted, the suspects alighted from the vehicle and fled on foot.
A total of five suspects aged between 27 and 35 years old were traced and arrested.
A 9mm pistol and ammunition were found under the rear seat and 11 cellphones were also confiscated.
The suspects will be charged in the Queenstown attempted murder case.
Joe Gqabi District Commissioner Maj Gen Lindelwa Vellem commended the members of K9, Crime Intelligence Units, and the DOCC for the swift reaction that led to the speedy arrests and recoveries.
