A Malawian national and a replica firearm used in a robbery was recovered in his possession in Canelands – KZN.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to Vincent Dickenson Road after receiving reports that a man had produced a firearm and was threatening to shoot employees at a business premises.
On arrival, Reaction Officers confronted and restrained the suspect. He was found in possession of a firearm. The weapon was confirmed to be a blank gun upon closer inspection.
While attending to the scene, Reaction Officers were approached by a man who stated that the same suspect fired a shot before robbing him of R300 in cash at the Muslim Cemetery in Canelands – KZN minutes earlier. A spent blank cartridge was recovered at the scene.
The suspect was detained at SAPS.
